Watford MP Dean Russell attended an event organised by the Watford Muslim Youth Centre Trust, hosted at Laurence Haines Primary School, and the aim of this community event was to highlight Islamophobia and to bring communities together.
The local Watford community welcomed fans of Blackburn Rovers to watch the match at Vicarage Road, before making their way to Laurence Haines Primary School for food and prayers.
The Watford Muslim Youth Centre (WMYC) is currently in the process of constructing a youth and centre community hall on Tolpits Lane to benefit the wider community. Facilities will include a cafe, banqueting hall, a creche and classrooms.
Once finished, the WMYC says the building aims to “enrich society” by offering “much-needed” facilities to all community members in the surrounding area.
Speaking after the event Dean said “Thank you to WMYC for inviting me to attend their event. Tackling all forms of prejudice, including Islamophobia, is absolutely crucial and it was a pleasure to support their event and to also meet the travelling fans from Blackburn.”
