Hilton Hotels recently invited Dean Russell MP to visit their Regional Office in Watford to discuss their partnership with WorkFit, the Down’s Syndrome Association’s employment programme.
Dean had the opportunity to speak directly with a WorkFit candidate, Dilesh, who now plays an integral role in enhancing the inclusivity of their work environment as a member of the revenue management team. Through his unique perspective on the office environment, Dilesh has changed internal practices with more of an inclusive focus and disability awareness, such as ways of reducing sensitivity overload. Through their franchise and partnerships, Hilton shares best practice across their hotels to promote a more disability friendly hospitality sector.
WorkFit supports employers and job-seekers who have Down’s syndrome, to access meaningful work opportunities that can benefit the rest of their lives, working with employers to find suitable employment opportunities and placements.
During the meeting, a Hilton representative shared how “working with Dilesh every day is a learning opportunity…and this is how change happens”.
Hilton is passionately championing and leading the way on being an inclusive place to work and ensuring job seekers have the confidence in applying to Hilton.
Dean will be following up with his colleagues in Parliament with reference to extensive research with 500 employers and people with learning disabilities, undertaken by Hilton during Learning Disability Week.
