Watford continues to lead the way in maintaining exceptional green spaces as seventeen parks and open areas in our town have once again been awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award. This marks the eighth consecutive year that Watford has achieved the highest number of Green Flags in Hertfordshire, a testament to the commitment and hard work of dedicated volunteers and staff.
The Green Flag Awards, licensed under the Department for Levelling Up, are a significant recognition of areas that uphold the highest environmental, maintenance, and visitor standards. Among the recipients of this esteemed accolade, Cassiobury Park has earned additional recognition by obtaining the Green Heritage Site accreditation for its historical significance and outstanding conservation efforts.
The Government’s Environmental Improvement Plan will work across government to help ensure that everyone lives within 15 minutes’ walk of a green or blue space. To take this further, the £9 million Levelling Up Parks Fund will support over 100 new and improved parks across the UK to ensure that even more communities can benefit from green space on their doorstep, just like ours.
Dean Russell, Member of Parliament for Watford, expressed his pride in the town's green spaces, stating, "Our parks and green spaces are so well used by local residents, and I enjoy supporting events such as helping with the annual Mencap 10k and the Peace Garden to celebrate the achievements over the past decade. It is great to see Watford receiving the highest number of green flags in Hertfordshire, and also one of the highest in the country. I encourage local residents to enjoy the summer months and beyond in our internationally accredited parks’.
