Hertfordshire County Council has been awarded £6,015,000 LEVI capital funding to support charging infrastructure. The Council will shortly be receiving their grant, which is in addition to the £720,000 of LEVI capability funding that has already been approved.
This week, the government announced support for a further 44 councils, bringing the investment to over £200 million pounds. This funding will help these councils to significantly scale up delivery of chargepoints and assist residents without off-street parking to switch to electric vehicles if that is the right decision for them.
This fund leverages private investment to radically scale up local chargepoints. Thanks to the LEVI Capability Fund, local councils will have resources to provide dedicated in-house expertise to deliver chargepoints.
This funding demonstrates a key step into making it easier for people to choose electric vehicles wherever they live. Across the UK, there are close to 57,000 public charging devices available, which is an increase of 47% since this time in 2023.
Dean said, ‘This additional funding is great news for local residents in Watford who own an electric vehicle (EV) and those who are contemplating a switch to EV as their next vehicle. The funding shows how serious the Government is for ensuring there is reliable and available chargepoints across our area for EV drivers. Since March 2022, the Department for Transport accelerated the rollout of EV chargepoints. I am pleased that this strategy will see 300,000 chargepoints installed across the UK by 2030’.
