ASOS

Global online fashion retailer ASOS invited the Watford MP Dean Russell to their site in Leavesden to meet with their new Director of Customer Care, Daryl Wilkes.

The offices in Leavesden provide more than 300 jobs to the local economy, making them an important employer for Watford and the surrounding area.

Founded in 2000, the business has grown from an internet start-up into a £4bn fashion business operating in over 200 markets around the world. ASOS customers can shop a curated edit of nearly 70,000 products, sourced from nearly 900 of the best global and local partner brands and its mix of fashion-led own-brand labels, dispatched from state-of-the-art fulfilment centres in the UK, US and Germany.

Given the sector in which it operates and its significant customer base, ASOS has importantly set out an ambitious sustainability strategy underpinned by specific targets focused on four areas: net zero, circularity, transparency and diversity and inclusion. The business’ first dedicated human rights strategy is expected later this year.

Locally, ASOS recently supported its commuter bus service provider Zeelo in trialling converting 260 employee commutes between Watford Junction station and Leavesden Park to electric bus trips for a period of 30 days across February and March. The trial formed part of a test & learn 100% electric commuter service launched by Zeelo to encourage its clients to make the switch to electric vehicles.

New Director of Customer Care, Daryl Wilkes, commented that “It was brilliant to welcome Dean to our Customer Care centre and studio facility in Leavesden which is central to ASOS’ operation. Our dedicated team help tens of thousands of customers each week. By investing in the site and creating career opportunities right across our business, we’re committed to making it a place where people love to work.”

Dean said "It is great to have such an innovative facility in our constituency, and to meet employees who showed me how this globally recognised company operates on a daily basis. It was good to hear from the new director of customer care about the diverse range of roles at the site and the desire to attract local people when new opportunities arise, , as well as to learn how ASOS are focusing on becoming more environmentally friendly and inclusive. ASOS is one of Britain’s best eCommerce success stories and having them in Watford is brilliant.”
