Dean Russell MP recently joined a drop-in session in Parliament, hosted by Tom Pursglove MP, Minister for Disabled People, to raise awareness of the support available from the benefits system for people who are nearing the end of their life. The event, which is part of the Dying Matters awareness week, offered vital information to the attendees about the 'Special Rules for End of Life'. These rules have been designed to provide faster and easier access to certain benefits for people who are approaching the end of their lives.
The Special Rules provide people who are nearing the end of life with faster and easier access to certain benefits. This aims to provide some financial security to those who find themselves in this difficult position.
From 3 April 2023, individuals who are likely to have less than 12 months to live can now claim the following via the Special Rules:
Personal Independence Payment
Disability Living Allowance
Universal Credit
Attendance Allowance
Employment and Support Allowance
There are many organisations, hospices and charities that support people who are nearing the end of their life to claim via the Special Rules, both nationally and locally.
