Watford MP Dean Russell has signed up to become more Disability Confident.
The scheme, developed by disabled people, employers and disability organisations is designed to encourage employers to think differently about disability employment. It supports employers to attract, recruit, retain and progress disabled employees in the workplace. This involves business talking to business, with Disability Confident employers sharing good-practice, knowledge and experiences with other employers. The scheme has 3 levels: Disability Confident Committed (Level 1), Disability Confident Employer (Level 2) and Disability Confident Leader (Level 3).
Nationally over 18,000 employers have already started their Disability Confident journey, with over 70% of Local Authorities signed-up and progressing at different levels
Speaking at a parliamentary drop-in event hosted to promote the scheme, Dean said that "This is a fantastic scheme for employers to demonstrate a firm commitment to support disabled people into employment. I know a number of Watford businesses and organisations are already signed up to the scheme, and I warmly encourage all employers to sign up to making a real difference to the work opportunities and lives of disabled people and their families."
