I echo the comments of the Prime Minister when he addressed the House of Commons yesterday, ‘We need to break the stranglehold of criminal gangs who trade in human misery and exploit our system and laws. Enough is enough.’
As I said in my intervention today, these criminals are murderers, as has been so awfully demonstrated with recent events in the Channel. I wholeheartedly support the emergency services in their commendable efforts to save the lives of those at sea. However, I am clear that illegal immigration, which puts so many lives at risk, must end.
