Dean Russell has spoken about the importance of reliable and fast broadband at an event he hosted with Openreach in Parliament recently. 99.6% of premises in Watford already have access to superfast broadband, with Openreach recently announcing plans to build a new ultrafast, ultrareliable full fibre broadband to the town within 18 months, further improving its connectivity.
Mr Russell has been working closely with Openreach, and last week hosted an event on upgrading the UK’s digital infrastructure and the benefits it will deliver for the economy. MPs were invited to learn more about the national roll-out of full fibre broadband and the work being undertaken by Openreach to realise the Prime Minister’s ambition of reaching every home and business with gigabit capable networks by 2025. Mr Russell also hosted engineers and apprentices from Openreach so that MPs could see first-hand the work happening on the ground to revolutionise the UK’s digital infrastructure.
Dean Russell said “whilst 99.6% of premises in Watford already have superfast broadband, I want my constituents to have access to world-class full fibre connections and I have been working closely with Openreach. I welcome their commitment to delivering fast and reliable broadband for my constituents. This will mean that businesses in Watford are better able to take orders, communicate and compete on a global basis, creating more jobs and helping our local economy thrive. Openreach is one of the largest recruiters of apprentices and former armed services people in the UK which is excellent.”
Clive Selly, Chief Executive of Openreach, said “this event has been a great opportunity for us to show how we’re upgrading the UK’s digital infrastructure and supporting people and businesses. Openreach engineers are cracking on with the build of ultrafast, ultra-reliable full fibre broadband in Watford, a technology that we know will deliver billions to the economy.”
