In June this year, Queen Elizabeth II will celebrate 70 years on the throne, the longest reign of any monarch in the UK. As part of the celebration, Stanborough Primary School planted an apple tree on the school grounds for the Queen's Green Canopy (QGC), which invites individuals, groups and schools to 'plant a tree for the Jubilee'.
The school was pleased to be joined by Dean Russell, the Conservative MP for Watford. Andy Tomlinson, the area manager for Co-op; Harjit Singh, One Vision Trustee and One Vision Director Enoch Kanagaraj, the school's parent governor.
The children took part in a presentation about the Queen and her historic reign, and the importance of caring of our planet and each other.
Dean Russell said: "The Queen's Green Canopy is a brilliant project and a wonderful way to mark Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee." He also reminded the children of the importance of caring for one another and the wider community as we all play a unique role in making our world a better."
Enoch Kanagaraj said, "We were encouraged to play our part to enhance our environment by planting a tree during the official planting season and for marking the Queen's Jubilee. All adults play a significant role in leaving a legacy and a cared for planet for our children."
Stanborough Primary School Headteacher Tiann Madden, said, "We were very proud to participate in this historical event. We are looking forward to nurturing the tree and watching it grow. One day Stanborough Primary School children will be able to see the tree and remember the Jubilee and the sustainability message whilst enjoying the fruit of their labour.
"At Stanborough Primary, plans are already underway to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee with a fun filled day of music and a grand tea party for the finale."
