Dean Russell returned to local charity ‘Hand on Heart’ to help them pack backpacks with everyday items for people who are homeless.
Hand on Heart was established in 2007 to help rough sleepers, vulnerable groups, and the disadvantaged by providing lunch parcels to them. They have expanded their work in recent years and now also provide winter warmer and summer essential packs to the homeless, and stationery-filled backpacks to disadvantaged children too.
During his visit, Dean helped to fill backpacks for those sleeping rough so that they have the resources that they need over the winter period. The charity’s dedicated team of over 200 volunteers will then distribute these items to those in need to ensure they are supported.
Following his visit Dean said: “I was pleased to be able to play a small part in helping Hand on Heart to carry out the great work that they do to support the most vulnerable in our society. They are an inspiring group of volunteers and a great example of people working together to help others. It has been great to get to know them over the last 18 months and I look forward to joining them with their future projects.”
Hand on Heart’s Co-Founder Afzal Pradhan said, “Though we see a light after the pandemic and life getting back to some normality, we are witnessing the impact it has had on people’s livelihoods. Winter is the toughest time of year for those sleeping rough and we are thankful to our partners and donors for enabling us to serve vulnerable populations across the UK.”
