Watford’s MP visited the Random Café as they hosted their first event at their new site on the Meriden. The Random Café is a not-for-profit community cafe with a focus on sustainability and food waste awareness.
They work with local supermarkets, businesses, shops, food producers and farms – intercepting food that would otherwise be thrown away, reducing landfill and ensuring good food does not go to waste.
At Random Café, all the food is eaten on a pay-as-you-feel (PAYF) basis. PAYF means customers can offer a financial donation to the project of what they feel a meal is worth, give whatever they can, or can recognise the value of a meal by donating their time, energy, skills and support.
Following the visit Dean said “it was great to meet Jane Johnson and her wonderful team. It was clear to see how hard they have all worked to get Random Café to this point and I am certain they will continue to thrive. I have often spoken about the important need to reduce not only single-use plastics, but also food waste. There is no reason why perfectly fine should go in the bin.”
The café is now open three days a week for hot and cold drinks, cake, and hot meals. For more information please visit https://randomcafewatford.com/
