Dean Russell spoke at the ‘Ahimsa and The Environment’ Event that was organised and hosted by Go Dharmic.
Go Dharmic is a rapidly growing global movement for individual, environmental and social change. It works with marginalised and underprivileged communities to empower individuals and enable collective action to positively change their lives. This event focused on the importance of public policy, corporate responsibility, and personal lifestyle choices in order to achieve our climate objectives.
During the event, Dean spoke about trying veganism and his decision to go vegan for two months earlier this year after he was challenged to do Veganuary. He said that, “I was shocked at how easy it was and how many supermarkets had vegan products in them… I really enjoyed them and they were very tasty.”
Later in the session, Dean explained that it is important for leadership on reducing climate change to happen not only at a global level but at a local level too. He spoke about the inaugural Watford Environmental Roundtable that he hosted in Parliament on Monday with distinguished guests from across Watford, which is the beginning of the work that he will be doing in partnership with a range of organisations in Watford to reduce food waste and single use plastic in our town.
Following the event, Dean said: “I was pleased to attend this event and to share ideas with a range of guests on how we can drive political change to help our planet. The current discussions happening as part of COP26 demonstrate that helping the environment must be a priority for us all and I look forward to more being done to address this issue both globally and locally.”
