Dean Russell visited his local Primark store in Watford town centre to learn more about their new sustainability strategy that they are implementing across their supply chain.
In September, Primark launched its new global sustainability strategy which is designed to: reduce fashion waste, halve the company’s carbon footprint, and improve the lives of their employees. In addition to these aims, its Chief Executive has pledged to strengthen the durability of the clothes they sell by 2025, eliminate the use of single-use plastics by 2027, and ensure that all of their clothes will be made from recycled or more sustainably sourced materials by 2030.
During his visit to the store, Dean had the opportunity to meet some of the shop’s staff, learn more about the company’s sustainability strategy, and see the wide range of high quality sustainably made products that customers can choose to purchase.
After his visit, Dean said: “Thank you to Hamid and Mary for inviting me to visit their store today. It was great to meet them and their colleagues, and to learn more about how they are taking practical steps as a store to positively benefit the environment. I am particularly pleased that they have pledged to eliminate single-use plastics by 2027, which will help towards us achieving my ambition of ending the use of single-use plastic across our town.”
The store manager, Hamid Doole, said: "“I was absolutely delighted to have Dean Russell, MP for Watford, visit us at Primark today. It is great to see his support for the Watford high street and I look forward to working with him more in the future!”
