Watford MP Dean Russell visited MENCAP’s café, which is located inside Watford Central Library. People can enjoy a cup of coffee and cake, with all proceeds going to Watford Mencap.
The café mentors and supports trainees and volunteers in developing new skills in catering, customer service and hospitality. The café also aims to combat the prejudice and social isolation that people with learning disabilities can sadly face on an almost daily basis.
Café workers raise vital funds to help Watford Mencap deliver support services for children and adults with learning disabilities in Watford, Three Rivers and Hertsmere.
Speaking at the café Dean said “As a champion of business in the constituency I am proud to be a supporter of the Café in the Library. They not only raise vital funds for Watford Mencap, but also mentor and train people with learning disabilities, empowering them to be active part of the local Watford workforce.
This fantastic café is an environment where people with learning disabilities learn new skills, but also enjoy new experiences and gain vital confidence. It also brings the local community together in a positive way, and I would warmly encourage anyone passing to pop in for a coffee and slice of delicious cake!”
