Local MP Dean Russell was joined by dozens of constituents on a tour of the Houses of Parliament. The group set off from Watford via coach and arrived at Parliament for a Q&A session with their MP.
This was followed by a tour of the Palace of Westminster, which includes Westminster Hall (the ancient hall at the heart of the Palace,) The House of Commons with its famous green benches and the 'lobbies' where MPs vote. One of the highlights is The House of Lords, which is home to the globally recognised Royal Throne. Along the route, visitors are told the importance of each room, as well as the history of each part of the Palace.
Dean Russell said “It was great to be able to show local residents the inside of Parliament, and I hope they enjoyed the tour and found it informative. It is a fascinating place to work, and I am really keen that as many people as possible get to see it for themselves. Thank you to my team for organising, and I hope to arrange similar tours in the future.”
One of the attendees added that it was “fantastic to see inside one of the world's most famous buildings, we are so used to seeing the famous green benches on the TV, so I was surprised to see that it looked much smaller in person. I really enjoyed the tour and learnt a lot.”
