Watford MP Dean Russell joined North Watford police officers on a dawn raid with officers from Hertfordshire Constabulary.
Following several reports of anti-social behaviour in the area including loud bikes being driven along the road late at night and the smell of drugs on Hemming Way, police organised a warrant to enter a property in order to search for items in relation to the theft of bikes and drugs on the premises.
The operation, OP Quarter, was a Section 8 Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 warrant. PACE 1984, section 8 is among the most common powers used to obtain permission to search a property. It is focussed on finding evidence of indictable offences.
Police Constables, Police Community Support Officers, representatives from the Council and Watford Community Housing all came together along with the MP at the address to execute the warrant.
Dean said “I have been on a number of dawn raids with the police, and I always enjoy seeing proactive action being taken by the police. I hope that long-suffering residents in the area feel reassured that their concerns have been listened to and action has been taken against those that have been causing a nuisance.”
PC Lermer of the Safer Neighbourhood Team commented that “At the address, we found a cannabis plant, evidence in relation to the cultivation of cannabis and three phones were seized for evidence. A suspect is being interviewed in relation to the offences and the investigation is ongoing. This warrant showed the residents we were listening to them and gathering intelligence to enable us to enter the property.”
