The Home Secretary, Suella Braverman KC MP, visited Watford to meet with local MP Dean Russell and David Lloyd, the Police & Crime Commissioner for Hertfordshire.

Discussions centred around the relocation of Watford police station, which is set to move to a modern building in the town centre on George Street. With the new location being so close to the High Street, foot patrols can be conducted more easily, while it is also close to the ring road enabling a rapid vehicle response.

The move coincides with the news that Hertfordshire now has its largest ever police force thanks to the government’s uplift programme. Additional officers are on the streets of Watford already.

David Lloyd said that “We are seeing the fruits of the extra investment in police officers in Hertfordshire – 2414 at the end of March compared to 1959 in March 2019. We now have the most police officers in the force’s history, and the crimes about which the public are most concerned, such as domestic burglary, have fallen significantly over the same period. We promised more officers and less crime, and we have delivered more officers and less crime.”

Dean Russell added that “Having been on a number of police raids in Watford, I have seen for myself how hard our local police officers work and it is only right that we equip them as best we can to help them in their vital work. New, modern facilities in the heart of town is fantastic news for Watford.

I also welcomed the opportunity to discuss anti-social behaviour with the Home Secretary and the Police & Crime Commissioner, as this is something that is often raised with me in certain areas of Watford when I am out and about.”
