Dean Russell MP visited Courtland Lodge Care Home, where he spent time talking to residents and staff about life in the home.
Dean’s visit started with a gathering at the home’s new 50’s themed cafe, where residents were enjoying refreshments which included delicious cakes, biscuits, ice cream and popcorn. The staff team were wearing 50’s style costumes and background music was playing on the jukebox. Dean spoke to residents in the cafe and enjoyed learning about their lives at Courtland Lodge and all the activities which took place each week.
Following the visit to the cafe, Dean had a discussion with the staff and representatives from the Care Home around social care, and the £600 million boost to local authorities from the government which was announced recently. An additional £500 million was also pledged to support both adult and children’s social care through the Social Care Grant.
Following the visit Dean said, ‘My visit to Courtlands Lodge Care Home has been really valuable. Speaking directly with the staff has provided me with insights into the daily challenges and successes within the care sector. The warmth and dedication of the staff was apparent, and residents spoke highly of the team’.
Wanda Spooner, Director of Human Resources for Courtland Lodge parent company Quantum Care said, ‘We were delighted to welcome Dean to the home. As a not for profit Community Benefit Society, we welcomed the opportunity to discuss our experience in the current social care climate. Being able to speak to our MP in this way highlights the importance of collaboration between policymakers and care providers in the development of future provision and quality of care services’.
The Care Home is part of a larger network of 22 non-profit care homes, with 19 of them located in Hertfordshire. With almost three decades of service, this home has provided care and support to 60 residents, demonstrating their commitment to Watford and the surrounding areas.
