Watford MP Dean Russell paid a visit to the Barn in Watford to learn more about the work that the Watford & Three Rivers Trust (W3RT) does in the local community. W3RT has been at the heart of community activity since 1974 and has played a significant part in the development of local voluntary services. Through various activities they encourage and support people to be active in their communities for the wellbeing of themselves and others. Much of their work is to help older and vulnerable people to build social networks and design and secure services appropriate to their needs.
Hertfordshire County Council meets around 75% of the costs, and members pay a small fee each month allowing them unlimited access to all clubs in Watford and Three Rivers. W3RT operate various clubs in the local area with approximately 800 residents using their services each month.
During his visit Dean saw the ‘Getting Together Club’ in action and then met with people attending the ‘Coffee and Craft’ session. Commenting on his visit Dean said “It was a fantastic afternoon getting to meet many residents and learning how the work of W3RT supports them in their daily lives. Unfortunately, there are a number of people in our society who are lonely, and this is why the work of W3RT is so important. As an organisation they work with people of all ages, focusing on both mental and physical health, and I am delighted we have such a wonderful resource in our community.”
