Watford's MP was joined by Community leaders of all backgrounds to celebrate Ramadan Iftar, the meal eaten by Muslims after ending their daily fast during Ramadan.
Ramadan remembers the month the Qur'an (the Muslim holy book) was first revealed to the Prophet Muhammad.
The event held by Watford charity One Vision at the British Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventist’s, was attended by Muslim and Christian religious leaders, members of the Afghan community and the fire service. The evening included speeches, prayers and a joint meal.
Speaking after the event Dean Russell MP said “It was a pleasure to be invited to join One Vision’s Ramadan Iftar. Ramadan is the holiest month for Muslims and it was an honour to break their fast with them. Fasting is a very spiritual and meaningful practice for Muslims, and being able to join in their traditions and celebrations as part of the community was fantastic.”
