Watford MP Dean Russell lead a Westminster Hall debate in Parliament to discuss Pryzm nightclub and the night-time economy in Hertfordshire. Last week the MP handed in a petition to Parliament, and today’s debate added further weight to that petition, once again raising the matter in Parliament.
Commenting ahead of the debate Dean said “As the only town-based nightclub in Hertfordshire, Pryzm has had many names over the past 40 years—Baileys, Destiny and Oceana, to name but a few—but one thing that has been consistent is that it has always been the beating heart of Watford’s night-time economy, with many businesses relying on the thousands of visitors each weekend. I have no doubt that Pryzm’s closure would be devastating for our town.”
Speaking after the debate he added that “I hope all interested parties agree to meet with me so we can discuss an alternative outcome for Pryzm. I called for this debate today in order to reinforce just how important Pryzm is to our town.
"Not only does it employ 100+ people, but the custom that it attracts provides a huge boost to neighbouring bars, local restaurants and taxi firms. As I mentioned in the debate, Pryzm is a vital part of our community, offering club nights to Mencap for example is something which is really important. I am grateful to Jane Hunt MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary at BEIS, for her response."
The support from local residents and businesses has been fantastic. If you would like to add your support to the campaign, you can sign the petition here: https://www.deanrussell.co.uk/pryzm
