Watford MP Dean Russell visited the East of England Ambulance Crew at the Watford depot to see the to see the important work that they do.
Dean was joined on the visit by Tom Abell, Chief Executive of the East of England Ambulance Service and Assistant General Manager, Dominic Hughes.
EEAST provides 24 hour, 365 days a year accident and emergency services to those in need of emergency medical treatment in Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Essex, Norfolk, Suffolk, and Cambridgeshire. The region that they cover encompasses 7,500 square miles and approximately 6.2 million people.
In 2020/21 the Trust received more than 1.1 million emergency 999 calls and has more than 4,000 staff and more than 800 volunteers.
Speaking after the visit Dean said “It was invaluable being able to see the work of the 999 crews first-hand, particularly as we head into the peak winter months. Speaking directly to the staff about the challenges that they are facing is incredibly useful.
“I would like to thank the staff for the invaluable work that they do. Their ability to remain calm in extreme situations when under pressure is quite incredible.”
Assistant General Manager for Watford, Dominic Hughes said “It was a pleasure to show Mr Russell around our station here in Watford and to introduce him to some of our crews. The festive period is often one of our busiest and it was a good opportunity to explain how we will be operating our service during the winter months.”
