On Tuesday, I met with Watford's new Chief Inspector Diane Whiteside. Since her appointment, Ms Whiteside has committed to an increased police presence in the area, particularly as crime tends to rise over the Summer months.
I met with the Chief Inspector to talk about the suspected arson attack at Adams Court on Monday evening; the second arson attack in recent weeks in Watford. I am concerned about the impact this has had on the community, and I am pleased that the police are exploring several lines of enquiries. Putting people's lives at risk is totally unacceptable and I am annoyed that this has happened again in Watford. This totally ruthless behaviour could have led to a loss of life, and anyone found to be involved needs to be dealt with appropriately.
I also had the opportunity to talk to local residents, and I am keen to keep an open dialogue and offer any help I can give, now and in the future. I would like to put on record my thanks to all the emergency services for their speedy response and updates.
In the mean time, police patrols are increasing, and I will keep in touch with residents who need help. Police are appealing for information, and you can find out more about that here.
