Dean Russell visited North Watford’s new Veterans Support Group to learn more about the important work that they do in our town to support those who have served our country.
The group has been set up by Liz Burns, who is a councillor in Leavesden, and who set up the Veterans Support Group Abbots Langley in 2018 in memory of her husband who served in the Royal Marines Force for 27 years and sadly died in 2012. The group aims to tackle the problem of isolation and loneliness that veterans often feel by meeting fortnightly to provide them with free tea, coffee and camaraderie.
During his visit, Dean had the opportunity to talk with the group’s founder, Liz Burns, and learn more about why she felt it was important to create this group. He also spoke to some of the veterans who were attending that day and heard from them about why the service and advice that they receive by attending this group means so much to them.
Afterwards, Dean said: “It was a pleasure to visit our town’s new Veterans Support Group and to talk to some of the brave personnel who have served our country. I am proud of their service and that there is a place in our town to provide them with the support that they need. I would also like to thank Liz for her dedication and tireless work in supporting our veterans, who have done so much for our country.”
