Dean Russell speaking in Parliament about Woodmere Avenue

Watford MP Dean Russell has welcomed the news that changes are going to be made to the infamous width restriction on Woodmere Avenue.

Hertfordshire County Council recently announced that works are planned to widen the kerb-to-kerb width from 7” to 7”6, and to adjust the bollards by removing the first set of bollards and moving the remaining bollards back 6 inches. In addition, Hertfordshire County Council continue to work on the ANPR option following the legislation that was passed giving local authorities powers from part 6 of the Traffic Management Act 2004. This is scheduled to come into force in 2023, and subject to the outcome of a public consultation.

Following the announcement Dean said “I am really pleased that we are finally seeing some positive action around the width restriction as I know that this has been an issue for those living on the street, and surrounding streets who have to navigate the bollards, for many, many years now.

“By giving vehicles extra room, and fewer bollards to drive through, I am certain that there will be far fewer incidents.

“I have long supported having ANPR cameras. I raised this in Parliament back in March 2021 as I spoke about the need to reform traffic legislation to allow the rules that apply in London, to also be available to other areas.”
