Dean Russell visited Watford Palace Theatre to see the great work that they are doing to engage young people in the theatre industry, and to prepare for what will be a brilliant Christmas pantomime.
On Saturday, the theatre put on a public open day and offered an exciting range of activities for people of all ages which included backstage tours, acting workshops and introductory pantomime sessions. Dean was also fortunate to get a sneak preview of ‘Watford Big Bunting’, which is the theatre’s upcoming digital legacy project.
Watford Palace Theatre was one of many cultural organisations across the UK that received support from the government’s Cultural Recovery Fund to protect what the former Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden described as “these special places… that form the soul of our nation…”. The theatre was awarded more than £248,000 from the scheme in October 2020 and has started to thrive again as restrictions have eased.
Dean Russell said: “I am so pleased that this great theatre, which is at the cultural heart of our town, is beginning to thrive again. Today I got the opportunity to see for myself the exciting projects that they are working on, and it is great that they were able to provide a day of fun and insightful activities for families across Watford to inspire the next generation of actors, actresses and producers.”
