Recent government figures reveal that over 19,400 people in Watford have had their wages paid by the government during the coronavirus crisis through the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (figures up to 30 June.)
The self-employed in Watford have received over £20 million in support, over £88 million of Bounce Back Loans have been approved, and over £17.9 million of business grants have been paid out to try to protect as many jobs and business as possible.
Welcoming the latest figures, Dean Russell said that “the government has done the right thing helping people and businesses through the pandemic and is continuing to support them as we come out of it.
As I have said before, it is more important than ever that we support local business, and this is why I fully support Watford Observer’s #lovelocalbusiness campaign. The latest figures demonstrate government support for jobs, incomes, and businesses across the UK and we can all help by shopping locally wherever possible.”
