Dean Russell MP and John Lamont MP were invited by the Prime Minister to accompany His Excellency Vadym Prystaiko, Ambassador of Ukraine to the UK in the House of Commons.
Dean and John are both Parliamentary Private Secretaries (PPS) to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and were sat alongside the Ambassador for Prime Minister’s Questions yesterday.
Following the meeting Dean commented, ' What is happening in Ukraine is utterly heart-breaking and profoundly wrong, this is a wholly unprovoked attack on a sovereign democratic state. Yesterday was very moving, with all MPs standing in solidarity with Ukraine. The strength, courage, patriotism, and determination shown by the people of Ukraine has been incredible, and I know colleagues are working hard to ensure we offer them as much support as possible.
As the Speaker pointed out, applause is not commonly permitted in the House of Commons but it was right to demonstrate our heartfelt sympathy and support for Ukraine.
Many constituents have been in touch asking how they can help. The DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal is now open, and the UK Government has pledged to match the public's first £20 million. You can donate here https://donation.dec.org.uk/ukraine-humanitarian-appeal
All donated funds will help to ensure that Ukrainians can get the supplies that they need urgently, as the money will be administered by those already on the ground assisting with the humanitarian relief programme.”
