Dean Russell MP has been selected as one of the Vice Chairs of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Tamils. All-Party Parliamentary Groups (APPGs) are informal cross-party groups that are run by members of the Commons and Lords. They serve as an important forum for discussions on specific issues.
Dean Russell said: "The Tamil community are an important part of Watford's ethno-lingusitic diversity. It is that diversity that makes our town such an inclusive and important place. I am delighted to be able to represent the Tamil community of Watford in Parliament. I will use this opportunity make sure Tamils are both celebrated and their concerns are heard. The Tamil community in Watford is known for their generosity, something seen throughout Covid-19."
Alongside serving on both the Health & Social Care and Joint Human Rights select committees, Dean is a member of APPGs for Mental Health (where he is co-chair), Loneliness, Loan Charge and Knife Crime.
The Tamil population of Watford is one of the most significant in Hertfordshire. Two of their language schools include the Herts Tamil School and Greater London Tamil Sangam, both based in Watford.
