A Watershed Moment: The Shark Fins Act Receives Royal Assent

The Shark Fins Act receives Royal Assent today. The Act institutes a ban on the import and export of detached shark fins, including products containing them. With many shark species facing significant threats, this crucial legislation is set to provide an extra layer of protection, alongside strict measures for any exceptions to the ban. This is an essential step forward in the UK's ongoing commitment to marine conservation.

Recognising the UK's history of advocating for sustainable fishing and marine conservation, Dean supported this legislation to combat the harmful practice of shark finning. This comes as part of his ongoing efforts to promote environmental sustainability and animal welfare.
