Dean Russell MP with Dean's Green Team in Parliament

Dean Russell MP was joined by the Rt Hon Sir Alok Sharma MP at a meeting of his ‘Green Team’ which took place in Parliament.

The Green Team is a group of young students who have an interest in the green agenda and environmental issues. Dean launched his ‘Green Team’ during covid with the meetings initially taking place virtually.  Following discussions, the main themes were promoting the use of second-hand clothes, teaching young children about the importance of recycling and ensuring that our homes and public buildings are as efficient as possible.

The UK has had a leading role in the world’s response to climate change. Following COP26, of which Sir Alok was President, 90% of the world’s economy is now following the UK’s lead by committing to net zero, and that over 130 countries, home to more than 90% of the world’s forests, signed up to halt and reverse deforestation by 2030.

Following the meeting, Sir Alok Sharma said “I was delighted to accept the invitation from Dean to meet with his Green Team. I was impressed by the ideas and enthusiasm demonstrated by the students to tackle climate change, the defining issue of our time. I look forward to following how individual schools in Watford and the Green Team members continue to pursue this vital agenda.”

Dean said, “I would like to thank Sir Alok for joining the meeting. The contributions of the young people have really helped me shape my policy ideas which I have shared with government, and has also given me a greater understanding of their concerns. I look forward to further meetings with the Green Team and I hope to be able to visit each local school to undertake litter picks and other initiatives to ensure that this important issue is at the forefront of the agenda.”

They say a week is a long time in politics and that couldn’t be more true with the election only just a week or so ago.  Now that my Parliamentary office has been emptied, my pass has been deactivated, my meetings have begun on my team’s redundancies and winding down has started, I felt it wou
