Dean's Green Team

Dean Russell hosted the first meeting of ‘Dean’s Green Team’, his new initiative to give young people across Watford an opportunity to discuss important issues that matter to them with him as their Member of Parliament, with a focus on environmental concerns.

This project was inspired by the COP26 Climate Conference in Glasgow. During the Conference, Dean invited students from across Watford to participate in this local project, with the nominated students having the opportunity to meet with Dean on a regular basis to share their ideas on actions that can be taken both individually and collectively, and how to raise awareness and incentivise others.

During the discussions, the students raised a range of environmental issues, including: the importance of reducing the amount of plastic that we use and tackling litter. They also discussed potential solutions to these problems, such as making sure that the cutlery used in schools is either reusable or biodegradable, ensuring that there are enough bins to put the appropriate waste in, and proactively doing more to raise awareness generally.

Following the meeting, local student Cameron Gravestock-Magee, said: “It was great to join Dean for the first meeting of his Green Team. I believe that this project is an important step to making our local area greener, and the discussions we had today were a great way to get things in motion.”

Dean said: “I would like to thank all of the students who attended the first meeting of Dean’s Green Team. The students were very impressive, and I enjoyed talking to them about how we can find solutions to the important issues that they raised. I look forward to discussing progress on these issues and solutions further with them at our next meeting.”
